Single visit crowns and onlays are possible with CERECĀ®, a computer assisted restoration procedure, a recent innovation available in our office.
Getting a crown or an onlay usually requires two dental appointments. During the first visit the dentist prepares the tooth for the restoration, takes an impression to be sent to the lab, and makes a temporary restoration to protect the tooth until the second appointment. At the second visit the temporary piece is replaced by the permanent crown or onlay made by the lab.
With CEREC, the crown or onlay is designed with the aid of a digital 3D camera and milled, while you wait, by an in-office milling machine. The CEREC restorations are milled out of pure ceramic, to fit your tooth precisely. The in-office milling allows for a one time visit for this procedure. There is no longer a need for temporary restorations and impressions to be sent to a lab.
